.the second week

is almost done!
 -  i know.

time flies. it is a bit weird though.

this week i am at the library of the school of economics 
and it is really nice that i have achieved a some kind
of daily routine there.
so i am doing all the stuff that i know from my own 
library - like shelving. haha. and tones of other
things which are a daily business at every library.
and i was everyday at the circulation desk
which is at the school of economics a new version
of that (or of their old one).
there are two practical standing tables, with computers
on them and a cash box
which secure a direct dialogue with the costumers
that makes it more personal and you approach each other
at the same height. i like that a lot.
i think/hope i did a good job today. it is quite nice that everyone
does speak english and i try to say kiitos and anteeksi a lot. 

we also moved few old journals in the closed stack. 
exercise!

and i also enjoy the nature quite a lot. 
it is killing me a bit, because i always have to stop
while running for the clicking. haha. worst.

.weekend

is now over, i know
but
since the weather is still really good
and i had a lot of fun
i let the pictures speak for themself.

this is a part of ruissalo, a island next to turku
which you can reach via the city bus. happy me.
bacause this was really calming and nice.

.first week

done.

it was a week full of kindness and knowledge.
i am so glad that i have this opportunity.

thursday and friday were quite full with 
louds of work. 
i was at the cataloging section at the
juslenia and we [anne-marie and i] figured out 
that there are similarities but also differences
in our systems
therefore a lot to learn.
hinting RDA [ Rescource Description and Acces]

friday started with a festivity
cake & sprakling wine
but also a bit of awe.
when a colleague retire
than there are always mixed feelings.
but it was a honor to be a part of it
kiitos hyvää.

condensed - they make me feel like one of them
very welcomed.
[and i am looking forward to my finnish course!]

now i am off for my weekend

.day 3

so much insight!
i am very much impressed with the way the library staff
treats me. they show me everything, repeat everything
as often as i need it and most of all i am getting huge
knowledgebatches. i am enjoying every bit of it.

today i had a special hour with another informationspecialist
anu valtari she is responsible for the business and economics
research guide [among others] so she showed me today
how she gives courses to master students on researching for their 
master thesis papers.
gaining so much knowledge, yay! i do deepen my own researching
skills every day more and more.

i also had my first circulation desk hour - well i participated
but everyone is really encouraging me even though i do 
not speek finnish. i always try to say first, that i do only
speak english and everyone is taking it really good! 

in the afternoon i had a little meeting with the 
head of discipline specific library mr. jukka rantasaari.
he is also responsible for me during my internship
and he explained me the structure of the 
university libraries of turky and the oncoming changes
within the administration, management and organisation
of all the libraries of the university.
which was realy interesting seeing how they
will cope with all the changes within the information
services and digital media and how they want to provide
and strenghen the service offer.

well as you can read - i am doing really good over here.

.second day at work

i had the best introduction into the librarys internet appereance.

i learnd a lot today!

Even though i started with the usual - shelfing the books 

[but its still my favorite, ha. and i also learned the other signatures today.

yay more shelfing]

i had then a meeting with katja halonen

one of the information specialists at the library of the educarium.

she showed me how to do the basic research for books, journals and electronic media via volter, the advanced research, research for online media and databases via neli portal and most of all

the research guides which they invented last year.

these guides are worth a look! [here] because if you are working on any

paper or thesis in any subject there are tips and louds of informations on

how to search for relevant articels and books, journals and of course databases.

[you do not need google scholar! but there are even other searchingmachines mentioned,

yeah there are others than google!]

but these guides can do so much more! they also show you the newest books, relevant articles and the newest databases! 

handpicked from the library staff.

and everything in an easy understandable way. 

yes that is real enthusiasm! (obviously i am a liabrary assistant by heart.)

i also got an offer to do a languge course. sure that! 

so maybe i will learn finnish afterall.

.my first day

all in all
the finnish people are amazingly friendly.
that is a blessing.

i am now at my own room at a shared
apartment with two girls from finland.

and there was so much help form the staff
of the library for education & social science [educarium]

[i do not know how i would have done it on my own]

and my first day there - pretty good!
they made me feel very welcome and showed 
me around, explained me the first steps and
the building, the cafeteria and all
i have got my own staffaccount and an
emailaddress with an utu.fi - ending! 
and of course i hade to work - putting
books back in stock. that is still one of my 
favorite things to do in any library
and something you know by heart.
[and also pretty quick.]

tomorrow i will meet a coworker who is 
an information specialist and she will show me
how to use the data base correctly and doing proper
research so that i can work at the circulation desk.

since i was super busy today getting everything
in the right place i did not take any pictures plus
it was raining dogs.

.turku day

turku celebrated itself today 
with a lots of festivities like markets
free entrences to museums and
open shops.

and i took a few pictures while i was
searching for my first destination tomorrow.

since i have the worst orientation, 
or none at all 
it felt like dahlem dorf fot the first time
all over again.
there are similarities!

i am a bit excited and i am looking forward
to tomorrow
(the day will still be stressful, i have to move
first of all, i have to get my key, find TYS for
that and then i have to get my luggage (still 20 kg!)
and move over to the student village. yay.)
